Orthodontic Treatment for
Children
Regular visits to the orthodontist with your young child can help prevent the development of malocclusion (bite problems).
Orthodontic issues, like many other conditions, can often be avoided through preventive measures. This approach is cost-effective and provides lasting results. Approximately 85% of all malocclusions can be prevented by addressing detrimental factors such as mouth breathing, prolonged sucking habits, or inadequate care of primary (milk) teeth.
Treatment with removable appliances can guide craniofacial growth in the desired direction, potentially eliminating the need for later, more complex treatment or significantly reducing the severity of the malocclusion.
Orthodontic Treatment for
Adolescents
For teenagers, appearance, and particularly a beautiful smile, often become a priority. This is an opportune time for orthodontic treatment. A wide range of appliance types – including metal, cosmetic (aesthetic), traditionally ligated, and self-ligating braces, as well as clear aligners – allows for the selection of the most suitable option for the specific malocclusion and budget.
Benefits of Orthodontic Treatment:
Orthodontic Treatment for
Adults
The most important message is that treatment is possible at any age – without limitations. Missing teeth, existing prosthetic restorations, or periodontal (gum) disease are not necessarily contraindications; they simply require special attention and a modified treatment approach.
Even in mature adulthood, the dream of a beautiful smile can be realized. Additionally, teeth provide internal support for the soft tissues of the face – such as lips and cheeks. Their correct alignment can yield a better aesthetic result than a more costly facelift.
If teeth have been lost due to decay, and the remaining teeth have shifted or drifted freely over the years, it is time to restore order. Teeth that are rotated or tilted into the gaps left by missing neighbors must be uprighted. The occlusal (bite) plane, which may be uneven like a rollercoaster, needs to be leveled, and proper occlusal contacts must be re-established or achieved. Missing, crooked, tilted, or rotated teeth are also often worn down and are more prone to plaque and calculus (tartar) accumulation. These issues certainly detract from one's appearance and can add years to it. Before proceeding with prosthetic treatment to replace missing teeth, the remaining teeth should be correctly aligned.

ORTHODONTIC CONSULTATION
During the initial appointment, the orthodontist conducts a very detailed interview to determine what problems the orthodontic treatment is to solve, as well as to learn about the patient's expectations regarding the effects.
DIAGNOSIS OF MALOCCLUSION
In order to accurately diagnose the malocclusion, it is necessary to conduct an examination, obtain a diagnostic scan of the maxilla and mandible (formerly plaster models), take X-ray images (pantomograph, cephalo), and photographs of the patient's face.
TREATMENT PLAN DISCUSSION
Based on the diagnostic tests performed, a diagnosis will be presented (a list of problems and ways to solve them). Together with the patient, the most suitable plan option will be selected and the tools – orthodontic appliances and additional elements, if necessary – will be selected. The costs and duration of the treatment and its stages will be discussed.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENTS
In addition to performing typical tests, the orthodontist will also diagnose other problems related to the malocclusion, e.g. incorrect pronunciation, problems with chewing food, etc.
PREPARATION FOR ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
Before starting the actual orthodontic treatment, it is necessary to cure teeth of caries and other dental diseases. The patient will be referred for a dental check-up and oral hygiene.
COMMENCEMENT OF TREATMENT
After installing/handing over the orthodontic appliance, the patient will receive all instructions/recommendations regarding its use, including the brushing technique and necessary accessories.
FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS
To ensure that the treatment is proceeding in the desired direction, regular follow-up visits are necessary, the frequency of which is appropriately selected by the orthodontist.
APPLIANCE REMOVAL
After obtaining the planned treatment effect, the appliance is removed and X-ray and photographic documentation is made, similar to before the start of treatment.
RETENTION PHASE: MAINTAINING TREATMENT RESULTS
Removing the appliance allows you to enjoy a beautiful smile, but it does not definitively end the need for contact with an orthodontist. The patient is provided with appliances that maintain the obtained effect, called retainers, and the stability of the treatment result should be monitored.
The actual fitting of the appliance is not painful. However, precise placement of the appliance requires a significant amount of time, so patients should be prepared for a longer appointment (approximately 1-2 hours). During the first week, the patient may experience some discomfort, particularly when biting. After this initial period, the teeth should adapt to the appliance. Mild pain or a sensation of discomfort may also recur after each follow-up (adjustment) appointment. However, the longer the appliance is worn, the less pronounced these sensations should become.
Unfortunately, there is no single, predetermined timeframe for orthodontic treatment. The duration is largely dependent on the severity of the patient's malocclusion and the treatment methods employed. To expedite the treatment process, it is advisable to adhere to all the orthodontist's recommendations. By doing so, we can expect to achieve the desired results within the planned timeframe.
PROBLEMS AND CONSEQUENCES OF UNTREATED MALOCCLUSION
BENEFITS OF ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
Orthodontic treatment can completely correct malocclusions, irregularities in tooth alignment, and maxillofacial (jaw and facial) abnormalities. However, it is important to remember that the advantages are more comprehensive. Proper tooth alignment facilitates improved oral hygiene.
An orthodontic appliance is a device that enables the restoration of proper tooth alignment within the dental arches. These appliances also re-establish correct occlusion (bite) between the maxilla (upper jaw) and the mandible (lower jaw). Depending on the patient's age and the severity of the malocclusion, patients may be treated with three types of appliances:
Primarily intended for young patients whose occlusion (bite) is still developing. The patient can independently insert and remove the appliance. It must be worn for several hours per day, as prescribed by the orthodontist.
These are appliances that are permanently attached to the teeth. They are constructed from cemented bands and orthodontic brackets, which are bonded to the teeth. At our clinic, you can select an appliance that is suitably tailored to your preferences and financial means/budget.
Comfortable and virtually invisible Invisalign® aligners.
There are various types of retention appliances. One type can be the removable appliance previously used for treatment, but now worn without any screw adjustments or activation – typically only at night. Following the removal of a fixed appliance, the retainer may be a plate similar to a removable appliance, without screws or clasps, or a clear, custom-fitted tray (often referred to as an Essix retainer or vacuum-formed retainer) made of transparent plastic, which fits over the teeth like a thin covering.
At our clinic, you can also benefit from a range of modern adjuncts and appliances that significantly accelerate the treatment of malocclusions (such as orthodontic mini-implants/mini-screws), and ensure results that will satisfy even the most demanding patients.
At our clinic, we not only provide all necessary diagnostic examinations in one place, prepare patients for orthodontic procedures, and professionally guide them through the entire treatment process, but also ensure the maintenance of treatment outcomes. Our long-standing collaboration with specialists from other fields of dentistry and medicine enables us to undertake interdisciplinary treatment. A holistic approach to the individual as a whole yields significantly better and more durable results. ENT specialists, dental surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, physiotherapists, periodontists, speech therapists, and prosthodontists are specialists without whom many treatment plans could not be successfully implemented. Modern tools such as intraoral scanners, a digital X-ray facility, and 3D printers facilitate this collaboration by enabling the sharing of examinations, printouts, and consultations, not only domestically but also internationally.
Our greatest asset is the combination of experience, knowledge, and competence with a fresh and modern approach to patient treatment, which is ensured by a dedicated team of orthodontists involved in the diagnostic and treatment process. Our orthodontists continuously participate in training courses and practical workshops, enabling them to implement the latest medical solutions. This allows us to undertake orthodontic treatment for even highly complex malocclusions.
We fully understand that each patient has different preferences regarding their appearance. Therefore, we offer the option of using metal braces, aesthetic (cosmetic) braces, self-ligating lingual braces, or clear aligner appliances.
We fully consider our patients' suggestions regarding costs and treatment duration. We always strive to propose solutions that optimally address their needs.
We fully understand that any intervention affecting a patient's appearance and health can be a source of significant stress. Therefore, we strive to provide our patients with painless treatment. Additionally, we make every effort to minimize the number of appointments, offer convenient scheduling, and ensure that each visit is as comfortable as possible.

In some cases, orthodontic treatment by itself will not achieve the desired results. It often needs to be combined with surgical treatment. This may involve an extraction, which is the removal of a permanent or deciduous (primary) tooth; the removal of an impacted tooth that, for various reasons, cannot erupt into the dental arch and remains embedded in the bone; surgical exposure of the crown of an impacted tooth to allow for bracket placement and guidance into the arch; or a frenectomy (resection) of the upper lip or tongue frenulum. Autotransplantation is also a procedure used, which involves extracting an impacted tooth and securing it in a surgically created socket in the place of a missing tooth.
Procedures that support orthodontic treatment include the use of titanium dental implants in the alveolar ridge for patients with congenitally missing teeth (agenesis), most commonly the lateral incisors. The use of micro-implants (Temporary Anchorage Devices - TADs) – solely for the duration of orthodontic treatment – can also be beneficial. Major surgical procedures include operations such as mandibular (lower jaw) reduction, maxillary (upper jaw) advancement and/or impaction (inferior repositioning), and others, for example, those within the scope of plastic surgery, like genioplasty (chin reshaping). We also utilize maxillary expansion appliances; some are designed for young children, while others – anchored with orthodontic mini-screws – are used for adult patients. A significant advantage and added value of this approach is the widening of the airways, consequently improving conditions for proper nasal breathing.
I am extremely satisfied with the results of the treatment at the clinic. I thought that at 34, nothing could be done about the malocclusion I've had since childhood. Furthermore, I had clear braces which weren't noticeable. The result exceeded my expectations.
Ania, 34 years old
We decided to get braces for our son Filip (14 years old). My son was very afraid of the pain associated with getting braces, but it turned out that it's not a painful procedure. The entire treatment was quite long, but his malocclusion was completely corrected. We are also very satisfied.
Martyna, 42 years old
I put it off for several years, but I finally decided to straighten my front teeth. Generally, the clinic visits themselves weren't stressful. The atmosphere was very friendly, and my orthodontist explained everything thoroughly, so I knew what to expect. After the braces were removed, my teeth are straight. I think the result is brilliant.
